Tern to Rockabill
Rockabill Island has the largest numbers of breeding roseate terns in Europe (around 1,200 pairs). This colony is thought to account for more then 75% of the European population. These sea birds generally appear from April to October.
Holiday Spot
Skerries was once the site of the succesful Red Island Holiday Camp, established in 1948 by the Quinn family. The camp was popular in the 1950s and 1960s but it gradually decline in popularity and closed in the 1970s.
Bikers’ Paradise
Skerries has long been associated with motor cycle racing due to the Skerries 100.
The race, organised by the Loughshinny Motor Cycle Supporters Club, is held in the local area every year on the first Saturday in July. The inaugural race was on Saturday 6 July, 1946. Riders speed around the roughly 4.7 kilometre circuit.
